A quick, helpful guide to learn more about Jesus Christ

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." - John 3:16
Who is God?
According to the Bible, in the book of Genesis 1: "1 In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters." The remainder of the book of Genesis tells the rest of the story of how God created the earth.
Who is Jesus?
According to the book of John 1:1-14 , in the Bible:"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4 in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth."
Why should I believe in Jesus?
The Bible tells us in the book of John 3:16-18: 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17 "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
What is the Bible?

What is praying?
Praying is a way of communicating with God/Jesus. It can either be done out loud or in silence. Jesus gives us an example of how to pray in the book of Matthew 6:9-13: 9 "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. Jesus also gives an example of a prayer we can use in Luke 11:2-4: 2 He [Jesus] said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’ ”
Where did Jesus come from?
According to the book of Matthew 1:18-25: 18 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. 20 But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 "Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means, "God is with us." 24 When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, 25 but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.
What are the name and numbers at the end of a quote/verse from the bible?
Quotes from the bible are typically called "bible verses". The name and numbers you see at the end (e.g. 1 Cor. 13:4, John 3:16, etc.) are the where in the bible the verse(s) come from. Typically, the order is the book of the bible, the chapter of that book, and the verse's number in that chapter. Sometimes, you may see a number in front of a book from the bible (e.g. 1 Corinthians). This is because there are multiple books of the bible with the same name - these books are the books of Samuel, Kings, Chronicles, Corinthians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Peter, and John.
